Gah!
Went in to nice boss' office and asked her point blank if I'm losing my job.

She said (and I quote), "I'm looking you right in the eye and I don't know anything about that."

LA Boss comes up tomorrow.

Possibilities:

(1) My source is wrong. Very unlikely. She heard it directly from one of my other bosses.

(2) My nice boss is out of the loop. Perhaps, as has been suggested, for plausible deniability.

(3) They're planning on keeping me through April. Definitely possible since one person in our unit is going to be gone all April so we'll be short-handed. Also, would allow the new co-worker to get up to speed. Also, they could do it as part of the evaluation cycle.

I don't know. I'm whipsawed and stressed and tired now. Maybe they're keeping me through April. Maybe LA Boss will drop the news on nice boss tomorrow.

I don't fucking know.

How agonizing!
Is just resigning and getting on with finding a new position out of the question?

Depends on labor laws, and whether the termination is considered righteous -- Hec might be able to get unemployment if he sticks it out, which will make finding a new job a little less stressful.

Of course I realize that, but sometimes perhaps the stress of being jerked around outweighs even that.

No, I can't resign. I need to get the unemployment. Also, I just need to get as many paychecks as I can before they drop the axe.

I can't tell if I'm paralyzed with not caring, or just emotionally spent at this point.

Btw, congratulations on your reading! It sounded so wonderful and you looked so lovely. Love that dress on you. My first reading was also at my local bookstore that I'd been frequenting for many years, so I know how special that feels.

I get that. Oy. Mucho sympathy.

I know how special that feels.

It was a TRIP.

Heh. That's *exactly* what I was thinking this morning. "It's just not fucking cool to treat someone like this."

I should try that when they call me into the office. "Not cool, man! Not cool!"

Either that or, you know, evisceration.

Falling glass makes pretty noises.

Jeez, how frustrating. I hope you get another month at least because, as you said, you can use the $$$.

She wasn't nodding her head while she denied it was she?

Gah, David, it's all so stressful and crappy.

It's like not knowing whether you're going to throw up or not! If you know yes, at least you know and don't have to keep wondering, OMG, am I gonna throw up? You can just get down to the business of doing so, and all the uncertainty is gone.

Dramamine for YOU!

Nothing more aggravating for analytical types like us than not having all the pieces. Are they or aren't they? It sure sounds like they (evil LA boss) have it in for you, but maybe it is still at the office politics stage.

How about trying, as Bug sometimes calls it, radical acceptance, to help you cope with the whipsawed feeling until you have more data? Either they are or they aren't, so for the time being, grind away at the damned job as efficiently as you can, and try not to let their stepfordness crawl under your skin.

This advice doesn't help when you want badly to tell them to take a flying leap, but since you need the severance, try to take a perverse joy in making it as hard on them to part with you as possible.

Best of luck, I know this situation sucks (I'm a workplace rep for our "association" with the gov and I see this sort of thing often enough).
